Day Five

What’s a Shoe Bite? – Day Five of vegas2jaipur

“It’s a story about discrimination, when I was young I was told this story by my parents and it has stayed with me. It’s why I set up Faith, to support these children who are discriminated against.” Smriti, founder of Faith Sansthan, a care home for children living with HIV/AIDs.

We’ve spent the last 4 days at the care home and this evening, Smriti very kindly offered to drive us back to the hotel. It was the first time we’d had a chance to have a one-to-one talk about the amazing work she is doing.

When we arrived in India last week we had no idea what to expect. We knew very little about the country and the people who live here, and less about the situation the children at Faith were in.

Having been fundraising for Arms Around the Child for the last few years we’re so pleased to see what an utterly brilliant job Smriti and the team here are doing. The kids are so happy and are being provided with a fantastic childhood to achieve whatever they want with their future.

Today we filmed the school scenes of the kids adventure film. The boys dressed up in trousers and robes in an orange colour that would make an EasyJet employee jealous. As always they followed our dodgy directions perfectly and the story is beginning to come together. We’re back on Wednesday, which will be full on as it’s our last whole day.

Tomorrow we are going on Safari, which has been organised by Smriti (they are treating us amazingly, we feel totally indebted to them), which is a 3 hour drive away. Tigers, elephants and monkeys are just a few of the animals we’ve been told to expect. We’re hoping to use the footage to add to the film!

All in all it’s been another top day. “Working” with these kids, Smriti, the employees and the volunteers at Faith has been such an incredible experience. Tigers tomorrow, Faith on Wednesday, Delhi on Thursday and home on Friday. Time is flying by quicker than a tuc tuc in rush hour.

*A shoe bite is what the care home calls blisters :)

What wonderful photographs of your adventure. India looks amazing. I’m so happy you’re having a great time. I’ve been telling some people at school and at the art class – they are going to look at your website to see what you’ve been up to! See you Friday with a warm jumper, scarf, gloves – it’s like Summer here 20 degrees. Love ya x
